The government of Uganda has cut its budget for feeding juveniles at all seven remand homes across the country by 80%.

The remand homes across the county include Mbale, Arua , Gulu ,Kabala , Masidi ,  Naguru , and Kapirigisa .

This was relieved by the commissioner of youth and children’s affairs Fred Gabirano while visiting the Mbale remand home today.

According to Gabirano, the budget cut was not only done in remand homes but across all sectors of government due to starvation of funds.

He says that it’s going to affect the services at remand homes for prisoners but in the next financial year, the government may increase.

However, he urged the nongovernmental organizations to come in and support the government in terms of funding this remand home.

He further noted that the government used to allocate 660 million shillings per year, for feeding, but now the cutting of 80% of the budget means they will be getting around 150m.
